we live......and to live is to experience. a lot of us simulate tho. experience through others. from fear, circumstance, or inability....the reasons vary. but what happens when u are definitely in a situation that doesn't afford u an experience. u experience second hand.....u watch top gear and experience the thril of driving top of the range cars. u buy cheap leather an consciously leave that fact out so other people's comments make u feel like ur rocking the real thing. u watch rap videos cause u can't afford ur own hoes. u enjoy romantic comedys cause ud never fall for that idiot u have a crush on in reality, it just wouldn't work with the plans u have for ur life.u buy a miniature transformers toy cause u could never own a real one an do with it what u want.....
and me...................me...................................I listen to love songs...........................

a Dedication...a piece of u, from a piece of me....
Tupac did it.....they did it for biggie Smallz. For money? For other ppl? For themselves? For the person? A dedication....how would I do it? Honestly I don't think I could. How would I capture her smile, bright eyes, her attitude, her cheeky nature, her habits, her touch, her self judgement, her lack of faith in the world, her fragility, the way she looks at me, her blush when I look at her, her protectiveness of me, her vulgarity, her gentle self, her "honesty" her desire to be better, her saddness. I cud never put it in a song, I cud never put it in a piece of music in her honour....even if I knew who she was.

Skills vs tools
"I'm just trying to save up money so i can buy a midi keyboard and maybe a microphone...", words that i hear all too often among fellow composers and producers. Theres nothing actually wrong with trying to acquire more equipment, in fact more equipment can up your service price and attract more clients. What i have a problem with is the drive behind trying to aquire new equipment. Many of the times when i hear the "new equipment" statement its from talentless chancers looking to score clients from showing off equipment. Sadly it works sometimes. SO what REALLY matters, skills or tools? Im for skills, sKills and more SKILLS! If you know your craft and can use whatever limited resources you have to the max of their abilities, you can out perform any skill less individual on any day, and probably give the skilled individuals a run for their money. so what am i saying? im saying really judge your self and your abilities, and if they not up to scratch, hold back on buying equipment your probably not ready to use anyways. Save up that money and keep it, then once your skills match the industry standards you can purchase equipment of the same skill level. -something to think about- in the "REAL" world clients will hire you for what you can do (finished products) not for what you own. so decide for yourself what is more valuable to you SKILLS or TOOLS

Copyright 102
So you’ve reduced your work to tangible format and Officially dated it and by law (South African Copyright Law….which should apply everywhere cause copyright is copyright) the work and all its rights belong to you as the author. Although you have now copy written your work it probably still doesn’t feel right…I mean, how do you keep track of who is using your material and ensure that you get royalties accordingly. There are two ways to get this done.
1) You do it your self. This means that whenever your track is used by someone other than you, you make the effort to contact them to claim any money you entitled to and to ensure you have been credited accordingly.
2) An administrative deed of assignment. This means that you register your work to a Company that manages your material in terms of making sure you are credited and paid for every use of your material. They take on the responsibilities you’d have to under go yourself….AT A FEE OF COURSE. A relatively small fee though. They do a better job that you could probably do by yourself trying to head hunt everyone who was due to credit and pay you for usage of work.
Oh yeah there is a third way too….as unpractical as it may be to some of us.
3) A SHYLOCK!! If you have the money and know a SHYLOCK who has a clear understanding of entertainment law you could hire them to ensure you receive everything you are entitled to. Probably give them a handy cam to take some footage of certain stubborn offenders…

Goota keep it going?
Recently I was ask if I still get “that feeling” when I finish a beat or working on a project….Yes I do. The question that followed was how I keep the passion alive. My feeling is this…just like anything else, whether it’s a relationship, a skill or a hobby (for example you are a good soccer player, seeing as it is the soccer season) you need to focus some of your efforts on nurturing and developing this relationship, skill or hobby. Keep yourself interested, practise, share your love/interest with someone (although I don’t recommend this where the relationship is concerned). What I find works for me is listening to other peoples work and comparing it to mine, applying techniques that work to my future pieces. Checking out composing styles on videos on Youtube. Buying new equipment, new refills, new sounds and collaborations!! I honestly feel that if you truly enjoy what ever it is you are doing though these things should come naturally but seeing as people aren’t the same try these things if you struggle to keep the feeling going.
